We have complained about people running for various public offices visiting churches and soliciting members support – smack in the middle of the election season. Then, you may not see or hear from them until the next election season. But that is not necessarily true.
Many candidates, especially in Orange County, have made it their business to get out into the communities they want to serve and meet residents face-to-face. Some have even sponsored events to improve their communities – before the elections.
Now, if you have not met some of the candidates who want to represent you on the Orange County Commission, say for District 2 or District 6 which includes west and northwest portions of the county, including Pine Hills, SHAME ON YOU.
There are been countless forums, panel discussions, debates and resource/community fairs over the past year where local and state candidates have showed up, answered questions and offered possible solutions to the community’s concerns.
Here are several more events:
- Tuesday, June 24, from 5:30 -7 p.m. – The Pine Hills Business Association meeting at the Soiree Event and Conference Center. State Senator Geraldine Thompson (District 12) and State Representative Bruce Antone (District 46) will take part in a panel discusssion on key legislation and the impact on the community. Location: 6394 Silver Star Road, Orlando, FL 32818.
- Thursday, June 26, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. -South Apopka Safe Neighborhoods presents “Meet the Candidates for Orange County Commission – District Two and Town Hall Meeting.” Location: John H. Bridges Community Center, 445 W. 13th St., Apopka, FL 32703.
