August 2, 2026 (Orange County, FL) – Now that we are in August, with families most likely settled in from summer vacation and camps, parents can save some money on school supplies and items related to their students being prepared to go back to school. The opportunity to save money comes by way of the state of Florida’s Back to School Sales Tax Holiday which started on July 20 and runs through August 20.
Parents can buy qualifying school stuff such as clothing, shoes and backpacks less than $100 per item and not pay taxes on those items. Of course, certain school supplies less than $50 per item are also on the list. The Department of Revenue has a list of qualifying items on its website: https://floridarevenue.com/backtoschool/
The sales tax holiday will end several weeks after school starts; The first day of school for Orange County Public Schools is Tuesday, August 11. Good idea not to wait until because the most common supplies may sell out.
